| North to the Yukon! 50 Minutes #CAN-NTTY-VHS $29.95 The route to the Klondike, traveled by the “sourdoughs” of 1898, still starts in Vancouver and follows the Inside Passage north to Skagway. Fifty years later, after views of Vancourver and its transit facilities, we follow along the coast to Skagway, aboard Canadian Pacific’s PRINCESS KATHLEEN. Other ‘PRINCESS” ships shows are the PATRICIA, VICTORIA, ELIZABETH, MAQUINNA and LOUISE. The second section of the tape starts at Skagway, where eager passengers transfer to diminutive narrow gauge trains at dockside -- just as they do today. Double headed trains thunder up the 3.9% grade to White Pass, traversing some of the continent’s most spectacular scenery. Passing Lake Bennett and Carcross, we arrive at Whitehorse, where rotary #2 chews through eight foot drifts to open the line. The last third of the video details operation of the stately sternwheelers traveling down the Yukon River to Dawson. Not only the magnificent scenery, but closeup views of the propulsion machinery, are shown. Certainly a trip down this summertime “highway of the north” was one of the worlds’ most memorable trips! 50 Minutes Black and White, Color and full sound track. $29.95 back |
