The Complete 2102
#SRP-2102 $39.95

After the last Ramble in 1964, three of the Reading Railroad’s thirty magnificent Northern type locomotives survived in operating condition. Today there is but one: 2102. The first minutes of the tape are devoted to the first Reading Ramble led by 2124. Scenes of the Reading’s steam powered, stainless steel streamliner “The Crusader” follow and then the saga of 2102’s return to stardom in the East begins. All episodes but the first are covered by helicopter in addition to ground scenes.

In 1971, she is followed along the Greenbrier River from Ronceverte to Cass in West Virginia. In 1972, we see her from the ground and from the air between Baltimore and Hagerstown on the coldest day in Maryland’s history - some of the most spectacular snow scenes in the Sunday River library. Later that Spring a Ramble from Reading to Harrisburg is re-created. In 1973 2102 was dressed with elephant ears and a recessed headlight to reassemble the steam locomotives of the Delaware & Hudson. Helicopters cover the trip from Albany to Montreal, part of it doubleheading with Canadian Pacific 653, in celebration of the 150th birthday of the D&H.

Next we see her leaving Hoboken, New Jersey with the skyscrapers of downtown Manhattan as a backdrop. We follow along the banks of the Delaware River and over Starrucca viaduct to Binghamton. The return to New Jersey, via the Lackawanna, covers the Tunkhannock Viaduct(bigger than the Starrucca). The Scranton Canyon grade, Nay Aug tunnels, and Pocono Summit are shown with the help of helicopters.

Some of our most exciting aerial photography was made in 1977. You’ll look right down the stacks as 2102 doubleheads with Grand Trunk 4070 from Pittsburg to Altoona on the Pennsylvania main line. The tape closes with the resurrection of 2102 in 1985 and runs on the Blue Mountain and Reading.
